Crisis Intervention Specialist

Crisis Intervention Specialists are primarily responsible for maintaining the security and safety of the building during evening, overnight, and weekend hours. Crisis Intervention staff members provide a staff presence to the residents of the Rise and the community at large when day staff are absent. Staff are to perform these duties in a courteous and professional manner demonstrating appropriate boundaries with residents, their children, their guests, and the public. Crisis Intervention Staff are required to maintain the strict standards of confidentiality with all families served by Middle Way House as practiced by all staff at Middle Way House and the Rise.

Duties - Making hourly rounds inside the building, using the CI Log to record incidents of these rounds and other duties, answering the phone and taking written messages for residents and their children, enforcing and reminding individuals of the rules of the Rise, interacting with the public and public officials such as emergency personnel and Office of Family and Children employees, monitoring the performance of mechanical and emergency systems of the Rise, intervening in the event of personal or building - related crisis; communicating with day staff and management via entries in the Crisis Intervention Notebook and Incident Reports, and performing housekeeping chores. Crisis Intervention staff must also attend and participate in monthly Crisis intervention meetings, which are held on the third Wednesday of every month at 5:30p.m. Crisis Intervention is under the direct supervision of Case manager, Vicky Pollitt.

Qualifications - Crisis Intervention staff must have at least a high school education and a commitment to serving families who have experienced domestic violence and changing the social contexts in which gendered violence occurs. Applicants should have strong communication and writing skills All Crisis Intervention staff must complete the 8 hour Domestic Violence Training offered by Middleway House and 8-10 hours of additional training and orientation with staff at the Rise. The applicants must also be willing to submit a limited criminal background check.
