Scholar's Inn and Shalom

The second Sunday of every month the Scholar’s Inn will donate ten percent of food and nonalcoholic beverage sales to Shalom Community Center beginning this Sunday, April 13. Tell the server that you want to participate. Come back each month to help support Shalom.

Fairview School Chili Cook Off

The chili will be hot and the competition hotter at Fairview Elementary School's first annual Chili Cook Off on Friday, February 22nd from 5:30-8:30 p.m. Come be a part of this new school tradition and help with set up, admissions, serving and clean up. Soup Bowl Benefit

The 14th Annual Soup Bowl benefit will be taking place on Sunday, February 17th at 5:00 p.m. at the Bloomington Convention Center. This popular fundraising event features local area potters and community musicians providing their talents, while attendees dine on delectable soups donated by area restaurants. Volunteers are needed to set up, monitor tables during the event and clean up afterwards. All proceeds benefit Hoosier Hills Food Bank. Minimum age is 18. American Cancer Society Daffodil Days

STUDENTS, FACULTY AND STAFF ENCOURAGED TO GET INVOLVED IN THE
AMERICAN CANCER SOCIETY DAFFODIL DAYS OF INDIANA UNIVERSITY

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – For 35 years, the American Cancer Society has been making a difference in the fight against cancer and providing hope for those facing the disease through its Daffodil Days program. Although Daffodil Days involves offering daffodils every spring to donors in appreciation for their contributions, it is about more than just giving beautiful flowers – it is everyone’s opportunity to share hope for a world free of cancer.

Daffodil Days 2008 is coming to Indiana University the week of March 24, immediately following spring break. The American Cancer Society is looking for volunteers – anyone from students to faculty and staff – to assist in taking daffodil requests during January and February and packing and delivering daffodils during March. To help make a difference in the fight against cancer through Daffodil Days, contact Committee Chair Mary Ann Miller at 855.3810 or mamiller@indiana.edu.

Initial order deadline is Feb. 8, but requests can still be placed until March 14. For a minimal donation, supporters will receive a bunch of fresh-cut daffodils and, more importantly, the knowledge that they are helping defeat cancer. A bunch of 10 fresh-cut daffodils will be available for a donation of $10 or $15 for a bunch and a glass vase. Also available is the Gift of Hope for a donation of $25, which provides a bouquet of flowers anonymously delivered to a cancer patient in the area.

Dollars raised through Daffodil Days enable the Society to offer free programs and services that help people fight cancer with courage and optimism, while providing physical and emotional support and financial information to ease the cancer experience. Additionally, daffodil contributions provide the Society with much-needed dollars to fund groundbreaking cancer research, which happens right here at Indiana University, and by educating people about the importance of cancer prevention and early detection and advocate for meaningful public health policies that benefit the community.

Flapjack’s Cocoa Cafe Fundraiser

Grab this sweet opportunity to help raise funds for Area 10 Agency on Aging and the Retired and Senior Volunteer Project (RSVP) at their Flapjack’s Cocoa Cafe on February 1st. The event features an all you can eat chocolate chip pancake brunch from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church. Volunteers are needed to help before the event with ticket sales and flyer distribution and during the event with setup/cleanup, food service and of course making pancakes! Minimum age is 12. We have officially begun the 20th annual Bowl for Kids' Sake campaign, presented by Edward Jones. As you know, BOWL FOR KIDS' SAKE is an annual campaign benefiting Big Brothers Big Sisters of South Central Indiana. Bowling teams are formed who then seek out friends, family, community members, and so on to donate to the campaign. The effort culminates in a bowling party filled with bowling (of course!), music, photos, games, and door prizes at Suburban Lanes!

This year's theme is "Teaming Up for another 20 Years!" Come dressed as your favorite team related to athletics, cartoons, your place of
employment, etc. Use your imagination – prizes will be awarded for
best dressed!

BOWL FOR KIDS' SAKE is a great way to build relationships within your business or organization while creating support for a local cause.
Last year 168 teams participated in the bowl, and we are hoping for 200 in 2008.

Baxter Pharmaceutical promises to have a big showing this year with 5 teams raising funds! But AuthorHouse and South Central Kiwanis are teaming up to have 5 teams as well! Will Sunrise Greetings be able to beat them out with their 6 teams?? Or will BioConvergence take the
prize with 4 teams? Owen County State Bank is also a part of the action again this year! Boys and Girls Club AND Girls Inc. have issued challenges to the Hoosier Hills Food Bank!! Stay tuned…

School of Social Work Apparel Sale

Orders are due by Friday, December 14th and will be available for pick up in January at the School of Social Work. Payment is due with order.

Dinner and a Movie

The movie we will be playing will be TRANSFORMERS.

Fundraiser for Mexician Maquiladora workers by Afro Hoosier Intl

September 7 ~ 9pm at Max's Place (109 W. 7th Street)

This benefit will help to send a truck load of medicines to the Mexician Maquiladora workers. Maquila plants preceded the passage of the North American Free Trade Agreement. Raw materials from the U.S. are shipped to Mexico for assembly. The finished goods are returned to
the U.S. with little or no import tariffs or duties. The Maquiladora working conditions are "sweat shops" that pay starvation wages. Maquiladora workers are unable to afford the luxury of many medicines. For more information see the Coalition for Justice in the Maquiladoras:
