My name is Audra Miller and I am a social worker at Bloomington Hospital Children's Therapy Clinic. We provide outpatient physical, occupational, and speech therapy to children with a wide range of diagnoses from developmental disabilities to mental health issues. One of my many roles at the clinic is to provide support to siblings of not only our patients but the community as well. This is provided through a program entitled Sibshops. It is a four hour high energy, recreational "celebration" about the good and not so good parts of having a sibling with special needs. We play games, eat, and provide the kids with an opportunity to meet other kids in similar circumstances. The kids range in age from 6-12. I received your email addresses from, Kristen Riehle, a BSW student that I had the opportunity to work with during her time at IU. I am looking for students who are interested in volunteering for this program, which is held six times per year. I do not have the dates confirmed for 2009 and am willing to work it around the schooled of student(s) who are interested. This would be an excellent opportunity for students who enjoy working with kids and would like experience co-facilitating a group in a laid back setting. The students would also have the chance to assist in the planning of the program. Please share this information with your students and have them contact me directly if they are interested.
